Celebrating the union – Goonj

“I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure internal security of my country.”

With this solemn promise began the celebration of National Unity Day on account of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, hosted and organized by the Hindi Literary Society of MIT, Goonj, at the M V Seminar hall on the 31 October 2016. A sense of brotherhood and concord spread through the audience as they viewed the highly informative video which was played to mark the significance of the day and its celebration.

Home to a dozen poets who weave magic through the beautiful tongue of Hindi, Goonj also presented one of their talents, Rahul, who through his words shook the very foundations of the pseudo-patriotic actions if ever possessed by the masses. He illuminated the pretense put up following these seven decades of freedom leaving a message that reverberated through the hearts of each of the audience members; ‘Mein peedha ke cheekhon mein sangeet nahin laa saktha hoon’ – For I cannot  weave a song through the shrieks of tragedy.

It was indeed a night of deep sentiments with Konishjit’s rendition of Khoon Chala leaving the audience mesmerized and with goosebumps throughout the duration of the song.

Goonj did indeed awaken a spirit of true patriotism that day, however, it was not the only reason for celebration. The club was also celebrating the completion of a year since its inception. On account of the same, and also considering the Director’s birthday, Dr. GK Prabhu, Mallini Ma’am, a few faculty members and the heads of the club rose to the dais to cut a cake in celebration.

The audience was also gifted with a special performance by the Director who presented a rendition Chand Si Mehbooba Ho Meri, dedicated to Malini ma’am as well as Goonj.

There was also a melodious performance by Balakrishna Maddodi Sir which marked a phenomenal close to a magical evening.
