Hues X: Day 2 – A Treat Indeed

Extempore

A new day, a fresh start to Hues X began with the Extempore. Enthusiastic participants and an excited crowd swarmed the 3rd floor of the CBS building by 9:00 am. A wonderful contest indeed was put up with each contestant trying to outshine the other.

1st Place- Rituparna Dubey (TIPS)

2nd Place-Yashasvi Kanodia (TIPS)

3rd Place-Akanksha Roy (TIPS)

 

Wax Carving

Following the extempore was the Wax Carving competition. One can’t help but admire the small yet beautiful structures like fishes and pieces of the chess board that can be sculpted from just a few ounces of wax. Putting forward a brilliant show for onlookers, the participants gave the judges a real tough time to decide the winners.

Winners:

1st Place- Sonali Pradhan (TIPS) for a fish

2nd Place-Prishita Sharma (3rd year) for a mermaid

3rd Place-Tapsi Kumar (3rd year) for a chess queen piece

 

English Debate:

A literary delight for the audience, the English debate left the audience spellbound and in awe. The agenda was ‘The House believes that Indian history needs to be rewritten to eliminate the Marxist and colonial biases plaguing it’. Speakers brought out excellent points about how history being taught in schools highlight only the colonial rule and omit the rich heritage our country intrinsically hosts. They ultimately pointed out to the balance between good and bad that has to be incorporated in our history teaching.

2nd Place-Shweta Purohit and Soham Mitra (3rd year)

3rd Place-Lochan and Pallabi Roy (3rd year)

 

JAM

On a lighter note, the JAM competition was real entertainer dispelling the afternoon laze. The audience were treated to some funny and amusing talks on random topics like ‘Your first crush in Manipal’, ‘Your Dream Partner’, etc.

1st Place- Akanksha Roy (TIPS)

2nd Place-Anand K R (TIPS)

3rd Place- Balram Kadaikal (TIPS)

 

Collage

Everything is this universe is a manifestation of art’. This statement has been well expounded in this competition. With just a few scraps of colored paper and some old texts, the wonders which were made instantly broke the prevalent post-prandial lethargy after lunch. The colorful collages provided a pleasant contrast to the sultry afternoon outside.

Winners:

1st Place- Ashna, Shweta and Sneha (4th year) for a collage current affairs

2nd Place-T. Paul, Srishti and Soham (2rd year) for a collage on Mickey Mouse

3rd Place-Bhagyashree, Archana and Tapasi (4th year) for a collage on a village fair

 

Street Play

A lovely start to the evening, the street play demanded the attention and awe of the audience. The intensity and the display of various emotions in the fast-paced performances didn’t give anybody the chance to take their eyes off the show. A captivating entertainer perfect for the lively fest, the street play was undoubtedly the star event of the day.

1st Place- 4th year students

2nd Place- TIPS

3rd Place- 2nd year students

 

Western/Non-Indian Vocal Solo

The evening slowly slipped into a musical trance as participants rendered soulful non-Indian songs. The participants’ voices drifted along the amphitheater along with the slow evening breeze, setting up a calm atmosphere to enjoy the music.

Winners:

1st Place- Aleena Ann Thomas (2nd year)

2nd Place- Sai Nivedita (3rd year)

3rd Place- Arunima Kapoor (3rd year)

 

Duet Dancing

The jazzy lights and the ‘moves like Jagger’ from the Duet dancing competition got the entire crowd vibrant and excited for more. Each participant showcased a wonderful performance, evident from the incessant cheers from the audience, livening up the evening.

Winners:

1st Place- Soumyajit Sarkar and Ajinkya Naik(3rd year)

2nd Place-Janini Rajesh and Anshika Jha(3rd year) and Haritha Sreedharan and Aathira Aravindan(TIPS)

3rd Place-Sanjiti Madan and Anjali (3rd year)

 

Indian Non Classical Vocal Group

The last event for the day, the Indian non classical vocal competition was a perfect ending to a very eventful day here in Manipal. The peaceful music lingered for quite some time in the hearts of the audience as the evening came to a pleasant end.

Winners:

1st Place- 4th year students

2nd Place- 1st year students

3rd Place- 2nd year students
